The Waypoint at Fairlington
The Waypoint at Fairlington is the product of a unique partnership between Wesley Housing and Fairlington Presbyterian Church. The Church property had been underutilized for years, so to support its members’ mission of affordable housing, the partnership created an innovative land condominium to carve out space and density for an 81 unit affordable housing project. The Church membership was actively engaged in the programming, design, and execution of the project. Many features of the site plan and structure were ideas generated by and with the input and support of the Church. Located in a mixed commercial/residential neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia along the King Street corridor from Old Town to Baileys Crossroads, the project has outstanding access to public transportation and is within easy walking distance to a neighborhood shopping center. The Waypoint was granted 9% and 4% Tax Credit through VHDA’s LIHTC program and designed to meet the requirements of The National Green Building Standard’s Silver Classification. Resident benefits will include energy efficient wall construction, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, windows and sustainable materials.
